The UK government proposed in January 2011 that foreign operators, even from white listed jurisdictions must obtain a British and pay tax. The French government recently voiced its opinion over the “serious doubts” the European Commission (EC) has to its current tax regime for internet horse race betting that it is not well-suited to EU law.

The EU stated in its journal on the 14th of January that the protection given to just one area by means of handicapping competitive conditions to benefit former horse race monopoly PMU is not justified under the current economic EU State Aid rules.

The planned merger between PartyGaming and Bwin has finally been approved by its shareholders today.

Interactive Media Entertaiment and Gaming Association (iMEGA) has appealed its motion that has been propagated by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) in an attempt to revise the 1991 federal law that prevents state-controlled sports betting.

iMEGA filed the brief on Friday and was accompanied by New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak and Senate President Stephen Sweeney who is with the US Circuit Court.

Their lawsuit iMEGA, et al v. Eric Holder, Attorney-General of the United States, originally filed by Lesniak and iMEGA in March this year, their aim is to contest and nullify Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), which in 1992 has been enacted.

Hong Kong is the city which hosts the largest number of gamblers on the planet. According to new research it indicates that most gambling addicts in the city also experience some mode of mental disorder.

The Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, the Divisions of Addictions for Harvard Medical School and the Department of Applied Social Science of Hong Kong Polytechnic University have conducted a joint research program spending nine months interviewing and collecting data from 201 gamblers. The subjects were all problem gamblers who sought help for their addiction.

Over sixty percent of the subjects were diagnosed during the time they were studied and experienced at least one mental disorder. The disorders ranged from depression to anxiety and were linked to past gambling addiction. The results compelled researchers to optimize and sharpen-up more on mental health help.
